The Best of English Gardens highlights an extraordinary group of gardens in England.  These gardens have been chosen based on their creators’ artistic achievements, their plant material, and their influence on other gardeners.

The inspiration for our tour comes from Gertrude Jekyll.  In the Introduction to Colour Schemes for the Flower Garden, she writes:

…the duty we owe to our gardens and to our own bettering in our gardens is so to use the plants that they shall form beautiful pictures; and that, while delighting our eyes, they should be always training those eyes to a more exalted criticism; to a state of mind and artistic conscience…in which it becomes a point of honour to be always striving for the best.

Your hotel in London is the five star plus, Stafford, located in the heart of St. James, within steps of Mayfair, Green Park, and much more.  The hotel’s Main House was once the home of Lord and Lady Lyttelton.  Its cozy rooms reflect the elegance of Victorian London.

Day 1: The Best of English Gardens begins in London with a delightful dinner at your hotel, The Stafford.

Day 2: You have a day trip with your private transportation, driver, and guide to the south of England to see the spectacular gardens at Great Dixter and Sissinghurst.  You return to London in the late afternoon.

It is difficult to imagine the Prince of Wales without his gardens.  If you want to understand more about any person, look at their garden. It so often reflects their personality and ideals.
